Thunderstorms (a poem by me)

I’ve always loved thunderstorms

I don’t know what it is about them, but I could sit at my window,
Watching and listening for hours.

Maybe it’s the way the world seems to stop on command as the
thunder rumbles.

Maybe it’s the way the lighting demands your full attention and
the way we all can’t help but give it.

Maybe it’s the way the thunder rattles my bones, making me feel
a part of something so much bigger than myself

Maybe it’s the way the way the lighting makes me feel electric,
relighting the fire in my belly.

I couldn’t tell you what it is that makes me love them so much, but I can tell you this.

When the rain starts pouring and I hear the first roll of thunder I feel as though a fire has been lit inside me

I’m reminded that I am part of a world that is so much bigger
than me.
I’m reminded that there are forces in this world that no one
can control.
I’m reminded that no matter what, nature will endure
I’m reminded that power comes from within

Then the lighting comes and the real magic happens.

I feel invigorated, I feel alive.
The lighting adds fuel to the fire that already burned within me
and turns me truly wild.
I throw caution to the wind whilst ideas race through my head
I am a force of nature and nothing can stop me.

And then the thunder grows quieter, the lighting doesn’t appear again and the rain starts to slow.
I’m brought back to reality
But the fire still burns bright inside, fuelling my soul and passion to learn,
To explore,
To create,
To live.

I still couldn’t tell you exactly why I love thunderstorms, but I guess if I had to give you an answer, I’d say

They make me feel alive

I’ve always loved thunderstorms
And I always will
