Hello Everyone!

I talked all about 2019 in my last post and how it had gone for me, so today i thought it is time to talk about the year ahead, since it is now officially 2020, which I’ve still not quite come to terms with! Overall, I’ve got a pretty good feeling about 2020 because it is the first year that I’ve fully been able to do what I want in terms of me no longer being in school, I’ll be turning 18 at the end of the year and I’m doing something I love. Therefore, I wanted to set some achievable goals for myself for the coming year to help me on my way to making it a great year and to set me up well for years to come.

I narrowed my goals down to 5 good quality goals that are all perfectly achievable, but I also have a lot of room to exceed them. I like goals like that because it means that you have still achieved your goals even if you only hit the minimum, which usually requires not too much effort, but you can also take it above and beyond if you feel like it. In short it ensures you don’t fail.

I thought I would just list my goals out for you below and then both for your explanation and for mine to look back on, I thought I would go into more detail about all of them on why I wanted to achieve them and how I’m going to do it.

Read Everyday

Reading Everyday is something I successfully managed to do in 2018 and I absolutely loved doing it, but it just didn’t happen in 2019 because I had so many exams to study for and then the stress of starting a new college that I simply didn’t have the time. I’m settled into college now and I’ll never have to do an exam again, so I want to start reading everyday again because I really did improve my life. Committing to reading everyday meant there was always at least a little bit of me time everyday, it helped me get through my reading goals quicker and it meant I was reading more (both fiction and non-fiction), which was expanding my knowledge. I’m hoping to build a lifelong habit of reading everyday eventually, so that it is something I do for the rest of my life. I don’t have to read a whole book every day or anything, but I have to read at least a sentence everyday, which is very achievable and in my experience is never the case anyway because once I’ve opened the book I usually read at least a chapter!

Build My Portfolio

If you by some chance didn’t know, I’m a photography student currently and I’m hoping to become a professional photographer in the future. In order to do this though I need a portfolio, which is something I’ve only just started to try and put together and I’m quickly realising that I don’t have many photos that are good enough to include. Many of the shoots I do are for school/college meaning they are overly specific, in someone else’s style or just not what I want to do, so in 2020 I want to start doing my own professional shoots, so that I can build my portfolio ready for when I leave education in 2021.

Build and Prep My Business for 2021

It has been my dream for the last few years to open up my own business, but I’ve been held back by my age since most of the sites that would allow me to do so require you to be 18. My birthday is right at the end of the year (15th December in case you want to know), so I will be turning 18 just before 2021 begins. That means I have just a little under a year to get everything prepped and ready to launch in 2021.

I’m planning on trying to make money off of some stock photography, selling prints of my photos here on my website and eventually starting my own portrait business. The latter will have to wait a little longer until I’ve finished school, but I want to make sure everything is in place, so I can get started as soon as I turn 18.

Save Money

This has been a goal of mine for a while and I have succeeded at it, but I want to take it a bit further in 2020 and really start setting aside a chunk of my income every month, so that the savings go up faster. As I mentioned in the last goal, I’m going to be turning 18 just before 2020 ends, which means it is time to start seriously saving money for my future.

Be More Active

I’ve been careful with the wording of this goal, so that it isn’t ‘get fit’ or ‘loose weight’ because I know myself to be someone with a very obsessive personality. Instead I just want to get back to being more active. I’ve gotten more busy over the last few years, which means I’ve had less time to go for a walk everyday like I used to or doing much of any exercise, which I did always enjoy. I want to start being a bit more active in 2020, which may have the added benefit of helping me loose weight, but that is not the goal.

Unfortunately my local gym isn’t available to me because it is attached to my old secondary school and going anywhere near it makes me panic, but I’m going to incorporate more walking and working out in my room like I always used to.

Those are my 5 main goals for 2020! I think they’re all very achievable whilst still helping me to push myself a little and I’m looking forward to 2020 to begin. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have a really good feeling about 2020 and I’m going to do everything in my power to make it the best year of my life yet. How do you feel about 2020?

Before I go I just wanted to say that you don’t have to set goals. I like making them, achieving them and moving on, but I am a very ambitious person and I also know myself well and set goals that I know are within my limits. I know a lot of people scoff at goal setting in the new year, but it does give everyone at least a little bit of extra motivation and the sense of a ‘fresh start’, so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with taking advantage of it! Of course you can change your life at any time, but why waste the motivation?

Do you have any goals for 2020? I’d love to know them and feel free to keep me posted throughout the coming year over how your goals are going!

Goodbye for now!
